Guerrilla Marketing: Free Molson Beer for Canadians

Free beer seems to be a key role in this guerrilla marketing stunt. To promote its beer in Europe, and help its fellow citizens be proud of where they come from, beer brand Molson Canadian went with ad agency Rethink Canada to locally impact multiple locations throughout Europe filled with free beer. But one major challenge arises of how to differentiate Europeans from Canadians. So with a little thought, Rethink Canada developed the fridge of beer to be opened with a Canadian passport.

If the crowd wanted free beer, they’ll have to ask a traveling Canadian.

Overall this guerrilla marketing idea had a great concept, but fell short when distinguishing one’s national heritage. Even in the video, a couple Canadians couldn’t open the fridge because they didn’t happen to have a passport.
